Chapter 01:
TNE Live Music.
The Naked Eye explores identity, culture and the ways people are shaped by cultural movement, encounter and belonging. It is interested in people who carry influences from different places and experiences at once, and how those surface through creative expression.
From visual work around music towards documentary-led stories on transcultural identity, decolonization, creativity and social change. Bringing together visuals, interviews and short stories as a form of storytelling.
The Naked Eye is an ongoing project. Documentary work and short films are currently in development. This website presents its first chapter: The Naked Eye: Live Music.

Behind the Lens
As a Cuban-Spanish photographer with Afro-Cuban roots, Celina Torres Zalbidea’s perspective is shaped by what is inherited and absorbed. Rather than treating culture as fixed, she sees it as constantly mixed, questioned and reinvented.

Through TNE, North Sea Jazz is a movement; a collection of different generations, cultures, and musical languages in one space. TNE holds onto the intimacy and humanity that exists around the music.
Capturing artists such as The RH Factor, Bilal, anaiis, Kokoroko, Esperanza Spalding, and many more brought a different thread to this cultural tapestry.

Beyond the performance.
In the making: documentary portraits and short films that move beyond the stage, into artists’ lives, cultural archives and the roots of their music. An exploration of inherited knowledge, decolonial practice, and the ways identity and creativity evolve across places and generations.
The Naked Eye: Live Music is the first visual chapter of an ongoing project. A starting point in music and cultural encounters, looking at how different influences surface through creative expression.
