ABOUT TNE / AN ONGOING PROJECT
More than one chapter.
The Naked Eye is a visual project exploring identity, culture and the ways people are shaped by cultural movement, encounter and belonging. The project is interested in people who carry influences from different places and experiences at once, and how those surface through creative expression.
The project is currently developing. This website presents only its first visual chapter: The Naked Eye: Live Music.
Roots
The identity draws from African and diasporic roots: cultural memory, inheritance and belonging. Its vintage, imperfect treatment also references the 80s–90s pop culture encountered by migrant families in the places they moved to. Inherited roots meet a new cultural context and evolve into something distinct.
Culture is not fixed.
Encounter. Creative expression. Belonging. The project looks at culture as something constantly mixed, questioned and reinvented, opening space for stories about identity and social change.
Behind the eye.
As a Cuban-Spanish photographer with Afro-Cuban roots, Celina Torres Zalbidea’s perspective is shaped by what is inherited and absorbed. Rather than treating culture as fixed, she sees it as constantly mixed, questioned and reinvented.
